History of the Practice

Clift Surgery was built in 1992 to house the practice that had previously been based in Dr Mary Knowles's front room. A two handed practice had been in the village prior to that for many years but with the move to the purpose built premises the practice moved forward at great speed to the practice we see now.

The Clift Surgery is a four partner GMS practice. Dr Diana Kenshole has been a partner in the practice since 1998 , Dr Nigel Fisher since 1999 and Dr Andrea Prior since 2005 becoming a partner in 2009

Dr Roisin Ward joined us in 2010.

We have two practice nurses.

We have a trained Health Care Assistants in-house who undertakes our phlebotomy.

As well as an excellent clinical staff we have a dedicated and well organized administrative team led by the Practice Manager, Mari McKee. We have four receptionists working part time to cover the reception desk as well as their own administrative tasks.

Community

We are fortunate to be situated on the northern edge of the village of Bramley, surrounded by fields on 3 sides and with a lovely rural setting. The village of Bramley has grown considerably since we took over and our list size has increased by more than 1000 in that time with new developments in the village and surrounds. Bramley has its own popular primary school, station with rail links to London via Reading or Basingstoke, and an excellent Bakery! The village is  expanding again with a further 277 houses and a 70 bed nursing home called Cherry Blossom which opened in December 2010 at the end of German Road. Despite the increase in size of the village it has retained its charm and has a good and supportive community spirit.

The practice also covers the neighbouring villages of Sherfield-on-Loddon,Sherborne St John ( where we run weekly branch surgeries in the village halls) Monk Sherbourne, along with some smaller hamlets in the area. As such the community we serve is a mix of the rural and farming communities, along with a section of commuters to London and Reading. Our list includes a larger than average number of under 5s and an average number of over 75s. The communities are very supportive, particularly with regard to the elderly, with village help groups assisting to either bring patients to the surgery or to collect medication from the dispensary.

The town of Basingstoke, a short drive or train ride away, although the source of many jokes by Jasper Carrott, was completely revamped with a multi million pound investment programme in 2002. It now boasts an international concert venue, 2 multiscreen cinemas, ice rink, aquadome, and an excellent indoor shopping mall.

The Practice

We are a 4 partner rural practice on the northern edge of Hampshire set in open countryside but with the North Hampshire Hospital located on the edge of our practice area and in easy reach for educational meetings. Our current list size is 5700 having increased considerably in the last few years, and with scope to expand again in the next 12 months. We are a training practice as of spring 2006. We have a full complement of attached staff supported by our district nurses with particular skills in terminal care. Our community midwife holds clinics at the surgery on a twice-weekly basis and also works on the labour ward giving a good continuity of care in this sphere. Our excellent health visitor runs the usual clinics and support for our young community. A dietician visits regularly.

The dispensary is an integral part of the service and is much appreciated by the patients are proud of our service, which runs very efficiently but retains a very friendly face of the surgery.

Out of Hours care is provided by Hantsdoc, which runs out of the NHH fracture clinic. The service works well and is liked by both patients and doctors alike.
